SWS™

SWS™, the first tyre/wheel unit that re-inflates itself. Now for SUVs

It's called the Safety Wheel System (SWS™) but it is not entirely new. The system, designed for motorcycles, was a reality in 2004. But now, for the first time, it can be seen working on motorbikes - and SUVs.

The SWS™   interacts with irregularities in inflation pressure in a completely revolutionary way. Thanks to a custom-made air tank integrated into the rim, part of the air pressure lost inside a punctured tyre can be replaced automatically. How does it work? When the sensor registers a loss of pressure, the tank's air release system is activated via a connecting valve between the tank and the tyre cavity. And the air is restored. In addition, the air loss is shown on a visible warning display fitted to the motorcycle - so the rider is notified.

Now, the SWS™ system is being given its world preview on the first prototype of an SUV rim. The mechanism has the same function as that of the motorcycle, with the obvious increase to the tank's capacity. And in this case, the pressure-reading sensor that registers a loss of pressure is positioned on the tyre valve. Different from the motorcycle and clearly oriented towards original equipment, the SWS™ system for SUVs is highly versatile and important in the replacement market, as it can be used with both conventional and Run Flat tyres.

The advantages of the SWS™ system:

  • Natural deflation . The system compensates the natural loss of pressure, constantly and continuously, ensuring the tyre remains inflated and secure. For both motorcycles and SUVs, the tank maintains optimum pressure for a period of 9-12 months.
  • Puncture . The system enables the tyre to be re-inflated, rectifying the puncture in part and delaying a total loss of air. It notably improves safety, reducing accidents caused by tyre punctures, and provides more time to reach a service station for assistance.
